AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is the largest free, volunteer-run tax preparation and assistance service in the nation certified by the IRS. Carroll County Tax-Aide, jointly sponsored by the AARP Foundation, the IRS, and the Carroll County Senior Center, will be preparing taxes beginning Feb. 12 at the Carroll County Senior Center, 306 N. Main St. in Mount Carroll.
Tax preparation is by appointment only on Mondays and Wednesdays through April 11. To make an appointment, or if you have any questions regarding tax preparation, please call 815-244-1800 between 8 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. The taxpayer is required to bring a photo identification and all the required documents to ensure the correct completion of their tax return.
Tax help available for Jo Daviess seniors
HANOVER – The Senior Resource Center will offer two days of tax appointments for senior citizens on Feb. 14 and 28 through its AARP Tax-Aide Program.
Sessions will be at the center’s Hanover office, 500 Fillmore St. Clients are asked to arrive 15 minutes early, with:
• Their photo ID
• A Social Security card for each person on the return
• Proof of all income, including Social Security benefits
• Proof of medical insurance coverage for each person on the return
• Their previous year’s return
For joint returns, both people must be present.
Not every person or return qualifies for Tax-Aide. Excluded income types are farm income, except if only land rental; military returns; ministerial income; cancellation of mortgage debt; business income that involves depreciation; rental income; and K-1 form with any other entries besides interest, dividends, or royalties.
Jo Daviess clients can be seen at the Freeport office, 206 E. Stephenson St. Additional sessions may be scheduled in March and April at Hanover, but have not yet been determined.
